Taekwondo. The spinning hook kick is also known as a spinning whip kick, reverse hook kick, etc. Given the power generated by its spin and the impact of the hard bone of the attacker's heel, this kick can be devastating if it connects with a person's head. Depending on the martial arts style, the spinning hook kick may be used for sparring, self-defense and/or breaking techniques. The video below explores various methods used to defend against a spinning hook kick. Most involve knocking the attacker off balance during the spin and do not involve blocking the actual kick. In addition, if a martial artist is aware that a spinning hook kick is being thrown, they can step out of the way of the spin and counter attack the opponent when his back is turned during the spin.
