JKA (Japan Karate Association) uses Shotokan kata. JKA is the one of the largest & oldest Shotokan karate organizations. The order of JKA kata may differ slightly from other Shotokan organizations, especially for the more senior kata. According to the JKA website, JKA "teaches a specially-refined form of Shotokan style karate". Unfortunately, over the years, a number of groups have broken off from the JKA and this has led to some differences in kata and techniques. You should also read our section on Is Kata Useful or Useless? It discusses the pros & cons of kata. For additional information, you should also visit the wiki's section on Shotokan Kata. Or you visit the main section on Kata & Forms to see the kata used by a wide variety of different Karate styles. Martial Arts Books - Shotokan Karate JKA Kata List
