Nunchaku Do - Martial Arts focused on Nunchaku (Nunchucks)

Nunchaku Do is a weapons-based martial arts focused on the sports usage of the Nunchaku (Nunchucks). This "sports" martial arts was developed in the Netherlands during the mid-1980s. This is not the traditional martial arts use of a Nunchaku (i.e. Kobudo training).

Nunchaku Do was founded by Milco Lambrecht allegedly as a way of getting around a full scale ban on Nunchaku by the Dutch government. The sport is very popular with kids and is an ideal way for beginners to learn basic Nunchaku skills as well as general fitness. The sport of nunchaku do involves learning the basic blocks and strikes of Nunchaku, Nunchaku kata and Kumite/sparring.The governing body for Nunchaku Do is the World Nunchaku Association (WNA), which was established on March 14, 1996.

Combatants in this sport use safety Nunchaku and wear padded head guards. The object of the sport is to score points with strikes to the head or body while evading the opponents strikes. The ultimate technique in Nunchaku Do is to snatch away the opponents Nunchaku with your own.The grading system of Nunchaku do is similar to other do or sport forms of martial art with beginners working first through kyu grades and then onto Dan grades. One thing that differs with Nunchaku do is that instead of traditional belts practitioners wear Velcro belts to which coloured patches are added until the student reaches 1st Dan.
