Surujin (or Suruchin) - Okinawan Martial Arts Weapon

The Surujin (or Suruchin) is a traditional Okinawan weighted chain or rope martial arts weapon. According to the Ryukyu Kobujutsu Association GB, the Surujin "is a weapon with the essence of concealment prior to use". Originally, this weapon had stones attached to each end but eventually metal weights (Fundo) or metal points were added. Simular to the Kusarigama and the Kusari Fundo.

Moreover, there are two types of Surujin; Tan Surujin (short) which has a length of "150-152 cm" and Naga Surujin (long) which has a length of "230-240 cm". Techniques for the Surujin inlclude strikes that are delivered by swinging the weapon or by throwing one of the weighted ends. Also there are techniques for capturing/trapping opponents and their weapons simular to Hojojutsu and some Kusarigama techniques. Techniques for the shorter version of the Surujin are very similar to the Kusari Fundo or Marikugusai.
